Mayor Ross tells untruths on Radio

On the morning of 22nd April 2008, the day after the successful Parish Poll, Councillor Philip Ross (unelected Mayor of Letchworth) went on BBC Three Counties Radio and told blatant untruths about at least two important issues.

Firstly, he misled the listeners about the number of people who voted for the Councillors back in 2005, when the Town Council first started. Philip said it was "nearly 4000". In fact the data from the NHDC returning officer shows that it was just 2443 - a number which is less than the 2994 people who voted to dissolve the Town Council at the democratic Poll the day before. Philip appears to be completely deluded if he believes that the councillors have any democratic support in Letchworth Garden City.

Secondly, Mayor Ross blatantly misled listeners about the level of charitable contribution that the Heritage Foundation made to the benefit of Letchworth Garden City last year. He specifically said that it wasn't the £3million that had been stated just previously, but was only £300,000, and then asserted that half of it went to the Golf and Tennis clubs. Philip Ross is abundantly aware that the figure is in excess of £3million - after all, his wife is a Governor of the Heritage Foundation, and he will have read about the details which have been reproduced on this website for many weeks, and those facts are taken from the published detailed accounts of the Heritage Foundation (go to page 40), which are freely available on the Heritage Foundation website for anyone to scrutinize.
